Going through some game theory problems for my Microeconomics final next week, I came across several exercises which talked about players Alice and Bob. Since economists are quite dry in their formulations (things are normally just denoted by letters, greek or otherwise) I found this refreshing and a little endearing.
After a moment of thought (who were Alice and Robert to the author? Children? Friends?) I started on one of these problems. I soon needed to abbreviate the names into a single letter for convenience. Once I was done, I looked at the result and was a little heart-broken.
Alice and Bob, after all, were just A and B.
